Duke City Fix

Life, food, events, and community in Albuquerque, NM

I have recently learned that I am on the very short guest list for my ex-boyfriend’s wedding. Woo. Aren’t we healthy and happy?

Regardless of whether or not I’m planning on attending the event I need a present that says, “I’m happy for you.” I also feel obligated to purchase a present because if I don’t, I look about as bitter as Scarlett O’Hara on the wedding day of Ashley Wilkes.

The reality is that I am happy for them, but I don’t feel the need to spend tons of money, but I want to be creative. They aren’t the wedding registry type of people and I don’t want to get them the obligatory Target gift card. I want to give them something unique. They don’t live here anymore, but love the state. I’d like to get them something reflective of Albuquerque, but can’t get them a gift certificate to somewhere local since cashing it in might be a problem.

I had some great suggestions of Nambe and the pueblos, but I'm still trying to figure out if that's the best option for the couple. Anyone have any ideas?

The Albuquerque Museum gift ship has lovely things, including art books. They have some cast metal night lights that look like conchas. Actually, all the museum gift shops have great stuff!

What about the Wingspread Collectors Guide, a beautiful guide to New Mexico art? Pick one up at galleries or order from www.collectorsguide.com . Even if they can't afford anything in it, they will enjoy the pictures and information.

And there's New Mexico food in kits and baskets, including chile products, soup, and native plant products.

I love Nambe!!!!
I've found that Nambe has lovely picture frames that make excellent gifts for small weddings.
They're geting their pictures and they open your gift and find a beautiful glass and silver Nambe frame.
Especially if they're familiar with the product, It makes an extraordinary gift!
Good Luck

Yep. Nambe always works. It's the Tiffany's of New Mexico. ;-)

nmmagazine.com has a nice gift catalog. I've ordered some food products from them for family over the holidays. They have stew and cornbread combos where part of the profits go to charity. They also have wall art, books, etc.

I was at a wedding last summer and the Bride and Groom got a membership to the local botanical gardens (which they really like). I thought that was a great wedding gift and something unique. ANything cool where they live now?
