Barelas Babe's Blog

Diebenkorn in New Mexico

So, I screwed up. Big time. My flashdrive with all my blogs – pieces, musings, remnants, polished products – GONE! (Or at least it did not make the ride with me to our nation’s capital, which is currently more humid than a Finnish sauna and just as hot.) So yest… Continue

Profile

Where I Live:
Barelas (and Washington, DC)
About Me:
My real name is Teresa Blankmeyer Burke. I'm a bioethicist and philosopher, an activist/advocate, a writer, and a mom. I spend enough time at the Sunport that gate crew members recognize me by sight, but given my druthers, I'd rather be biking in the bosque or hiking the Sandias.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
Bosque bike trail south of NHCC, B. Ruppe Drugstore; Mediterranean Garden in the Biopark; Las Mananitas, El Modelo, Three Gun Springs Trail; Rio Grande Special Collections Library; sunshine; wonderful people
Relationship Status:
It's Complicated
My Website:
http://barelenasblather.blogspot.com/
What I'm Reading:
UK Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill (I'm getting tired of reading and rereading this bill and want it to go away....pul-lease!)

Derek Parfit's Reasons and Persons

"Are Philosophers Responsible for Global Warming?" and other articles from the green edition (Jan/Feb 2008) of Philosophy Now

Richard White's Radical Virtues: Moral Wisdom and the Ethics of Contemporary Life

(shameless self-promotion plug follows)
writings by fellow essayists in Signs & Voices: Deaf Culture, Identity, Language, and Arts, edited by the amazing Kristin A. Lindgren, Doreen DeLuca and Donna Jo Napoli, Gallaudet University Press.
What I'm Listening To:
Lots of Darius Milhaud in anticipation of a Bay Area concert this September; also currently in rotation are James Brown, Joshua Bell, Edith Piaf, Jussi Bjoerling, Tom Waits, and Lyle Lovett

Hi Theresa! I didn't realize it was you until I stopped by your page here. Nice to hear from you! I've been on the west coast going to grad school at CSUN. What's new?

Yes, it's a '74. What's wrong with your '68? Does it run? The only person I could suggest would be Taos Garage on Atrisco. It's not really worth paying someone to do a restoration as it would cost much more than the car would be worth in the foreseeable future. Depending on the condition of your car, you might be better off selling it and buying a better car. If you'd like, I could take a look at it. I live on Park in the Huning Castle neighborhood.

You said the magic word -- the men's basketball coach has NM ties. I am doing research on the history of hoops in the state, and I've talked with two or three NMSD players, one who starred for the women at Gallaudet. But I didn't know the men's coach had NM ties. I'll follow up on it.
I don't make chile but "road kill red" is a good name to put on your chile in any contest. No judge will forget the name.
I'm a fan of the Udalls, too. I bought Mo's book recently because there is a great anecdote connected with his playing against UNM (for Arizona) and beating the stuffings out of the Lobos during the 40s. I wonder how many people know he had a glass eye since childhood (part of the anecdote). Mo also eloped to get married in Lordsburg, N.M. Thanks for responding.

Great, Now lets see, I am not sure I know where the Barelas community center is? Its not the one near Hispanic cultural center, where the Marigold festival( dia de los muertos) is held every year is it?. Lets figure out where to meet and the time. Can we make it when sun is getting low in the sky, so I dont have to wear my nasty sunscreen.
How many kids do you have, I remember you r son that was with you on your trip back from dc
I have to go buy a lock soon. Today I am going to the library and it would be the perfect time to use my bike if I had a lock.
Hey have you checked out the church of Beethoven? I am wondering if it's good. I have been meaning to go

Oh, I am at silver and 13th. where are you. where could we meet, and where do you want to ride. The only things that I am concerned about are too much heat too much traffic(as in rush hour, if you can call what we have rush hour) and HILLS.....no hills. I am old and out of shape
