Where I Live:
Rio Rancho
About Me:
I'm a dude from the South (Georgia born and bred). But I've been peripatetic the last couple of decades. That's geek speak for "I've lived all over," including on both coasts (California, Connecticut) and now in the middle of the U.S. (NM). Moving around has caused me on occasion to wonder, How can the U.S. be one country? (If you've lived in Georgia and California, you get why I'm asking.) Now I'm in the Land of Enchantment, which has its own distinct flavor. It's taken some time to adjust to the desert, but I'm making it. So who am I? Short answer: a 40-something journalist with a wife and kids. Long answer: I'm a curious guy who likes conversation and who digs laughing -- a lot. Life is full of irony, contradictions and complications, so you have to learn how to roll. For that reason, I'm a live-and-let-live kind of joe. Maybe because I have a lot of contested space inside. I figure it comes from moving around, reading, observing and, let's be frank, realizing I ain't got all the answers and knowing that I'm creeped out by people who think they do. Stereotypes bore me, although I admit sometimes they are useful. And I don't really consider the level of public discourse in this country over the past 15 years too much to brag about. Notice I said 15 years, not eight. What I do like is reading (history, literature, travel, cultural criticism, philosophy, science), films, skiing, music, museums, long conversations, certain TV shows (Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Homicide; Northern Exposure, Freaks and Geeks) and, most of all, hanging with my fam - the aforementioned wife and two kids --because they are the coolest people I know. Yep, I'm a geek like that. Funny how age changes you.
