Profile Information

Where I Live:
Albuquerque, where else?
About Me:
So much to say, so little space. Writer, lecturer, author, grant writer, colorist, animal lover, mother, nana, rampaging progressive. And I still enjoy Christmas.
Favorite Thing(s) About Albuquerque:
The creativity, the arts, the diversity!
Relationship Status:
Single
What I'm Reading:
Currently, "The Language of Miracles" by Amelia Kinkade and rereading "Popay: Leader of the First American Revolution" edited by Joe Sando and Herman Agoyo. These authors are brilliant.
What I'm Listening To:
"La Corte de Faraon," a zarzuela written in 1910 by Vicente lleo, to be staged in spring 08. I'll be in the chorus. zarzuela.net describes it as "a blend of biblical pastiche, luscious vaudeville and Art Deco Egyptian chic."

Zarzuela - Opening Night is THIS FRIDAY!

Sunday, April 6. MEA CULPA! No word from me since March 1!! SO sorry. My plan was to write once a week and guess what! Life happens. So does that other stuff. Mostly it’s just busy busy busy. The zarzuela production is going extraordinarily well. How do I know? Maestro Pablo Zinger is back in town and today during the rehearsal with the 44-piece orchestra and the entire 30+ cast just doing music, Pablo couldn’t wipe the smile off his face. THAT is how we know he likes it. And the fact that he t… Continue

Zarzuela - The Heart of the Plot, or "Parts is Parts"

Saturday, March 1. What is the story of this Egyptian zarzuela? Music director Pablo Zinger writers: “It is a parody on the story of Joseph (“the chaste”) from the Bible, and Verdi’s Egyptian opera Aida. This delightfully kitschy, tastefully risqué satire is set in an early 20th century version of ancient Egypt. Joseph (José) is sold as a slave to the general Potiphar (Putifar); several women attempt to seduce him with no success, but with hilarious consequences. Potiphar’s young bride,… Continue

Hey Mary,
Actually Tosca is a flawed opera...no mezzo roles. I'll be stage directing. This is for Opera birmingham. I directed La Boheme for them last year and they liked it so much they invited me back! It's a wonderful company that hires top rate singers (my Marcello last year was one of the Marcellos in Santa Fe as well) and the theatre is incredible. (You certainly could come.I had quite a "clack" there last year.) Glad to see you're singing!
Happy New Year!
This is all new to me, but I'm working on embracing technology.
