The night before.

Good god, I never expected to feel this antsy. Chez put it well. Tomorrow is a bigger day than even I have allowed myself to believe. I'm hoping my fellow citizens heed the words of the Godfather tomorrow, for the good of us all. Holy crap, I am so crashing someone's election party, if only for the human companionship.

Something tasty this way comes

Last night, I accused a well-known figure from ABQ's restaurant scene of sorcery. Human sacrifice was really the only explanation I could come up with. The deliciousness really was unholy. I'm talking, of course, about Farina's pizza crust. Moist and chewy on the inside, crisp and perfectly browned on the outside, this pizza crust made me get on my knees and thank all the deities I could name for… Continue

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

I had a girlfriend accuse me once--long ago, when I was much worse at relationships--of being gone from ours long before we'd broken up. It was probably true. And while I've gotten better at being with another person, I have a confession to make: I'm doing it again. Bailing out before the iceberg's even struck. Exiting before the captain's turned off the Fasten Seatbelts sign. Du… Continue

The homeostasis of the blog...

...or of the blogger, actually, compels me to counter the heavy post with one less likely to prompt helpless head-shaking and righteous anger. It ain't much, but here it is: It's raining. It's raining. It's raining. Being a child of more temperate climes, moisture in all its forms is something I miss in this desert life. I walked home in the rain this afternoon, belly full of coffee and head full of wha… Continue

Square Pegs

Back in early February, I composed a little blog post that never saw the light of day. I'd dragged myself into the Urgent Care one morning after spending five straight days with a fever above 101. Satan had taken up residence in my entire respiratory tract (ever had bronchitis and a sinus infection?), and my immune system needed help. So I went. And sat. For a long time. (For the record, my PCP, while generally pretty good, is closed Fri-Sun. This was Saturday.) The post I wrote in my he… Continue

Hey there Jessie, I have a few loads of yard waste and I was wondering if Alan would consider doing some work in my neck of the woods. I am in the Nob Hill/SE heights/Ridgecrest area and I have several loads of yard waste that needs to be hauled. If you have his #, I'd like to give him a call. I don't know how to email you but you can contact me: katmaguire (at) yahoo.com. Thanks!

Doc Watson! I haven't heard him for years. Saw him in concert with his son Merle (who, sadly died in an accident some years ago) around 1974, I think.

Alan apparently went by your place, looked over the fence and said he'd come by at 7am tomorrow morning and haul your stuff away (cut up trees?) for $30. Let me know if that's okay or if you have a message for him and I'll let him know. - Jill

Hi Jessie: call my home phone number and leave your contact info. Maybe the address of the place, too? I can find Alan for you. He's always anxious to work and has done jobs for several people on my block (8th St. off Freeman, near 4th and Griegos).

There is something about the detail, tension, feel of the well thought written word, which forms images in the frontal lobe while reading, that's kind of cool. OK, about sausages, as a beta tester, you are in!
