Horse Wonderings

Horse Wondering #1 I think New Mexico, or Corrales, specifically, has the highest number of people who walk their horses. I don't mean riding them - I mean, the people are out for a walk and they have a horse on a rope and it walks behind them or alongside them. I see other people riding and holding the reins of a riderless horse being walked. My husband was lucky enough to see a stampede in Corrales - the horses broke out and they were galloping down the canal road lickety split - enjoyi… Continue

Fantastic, ping me when you're back in town, and we'll set something up. Thanks again.

iberostar, I'd love to buy a nodule, root cluster or whatever of your cane/bamboob to plant in our yard, we know certain varieties do ok here, but we could never figure out which, specifically. Drop me a line if you'd be willing to sell a hunk.

I like what you have to say about using our knowledge to help others. It's important to do that.

Interestingly enough, my first semester teaching as a full-time tenure track professor in Washington DC, I had not one but TWO young widows with hearing loss and young children as students! When the first one came to me to ask for an extension on an assignment, and then explained why, I teared up even though it was 15 years after the fact for me. The second one gave me goosebumps when she came in.

Since then I have met four other young widows/moms students at my university - I remember the kindness of my professors when I was a fulltime student dealing with litigation and a toddler, and I am glad to finally be in a position where I can help others. (Though of course, as you say, it is not a club that anyone wants to belong to.)

I agree about smells - I can't ever smell creosote or new fallen rain on the desert without thinking of my late husband. And I STILL tense up and account for loved ones any time I see a police car parked on my street - the police came to my door late at night to notify me almost 19 years ago.

The other thing that I did not anticipate to be a trigger was movement - once in a while my son will do something exactly like his biological father, and is just catches me off guard. Bittersweet.

On another note, thanks for your kind words re: my blog. I have fun with it.

Be well,
BB

Your post about the family whose daughter was killed in an auto accident touched me, and then brought back memories for me as well. I didn't lose a child, but a husband - who left behind a 13 day old baby.

My thoughts are with you on the loss of your son. The pain never goes away entirely, does it? And those moments that catch one off guard are the ones that are toughest to get through...

Hi - thanks for the comment. I took the Motorcycle Safety Class last year in April, but it took us a year to my bike. God, how scared I was to get on the bike, even at the class. I had two instructors, one was really great. The other one had a bit of an ego. But I am so glad I took the class. Have you thought about taking the class again??
