About Me:
CNM – which has five locations in Albuquerque and a new campus coming to Rio Rancho – is the state’s largest community college and second-largest postsecondary institution to UNM.
We offer classes and occupational training to people of all ages and levels of education. The New Mexico Lottery Scholarship is accepted here and we can transfer credits to universities around the state.
We have come a long way since our July 1st opening in 1965. The college first opened as Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) on the corner of Coal and Buena Vista in southeast Albuquerque, when 150 students attended classes in a vacated APS elementary school building, surplus military barracks and cottages.
Today, CNM serves more than 26,000 students. We offer 52 certificate programs in business, health, technologies and trades occupations and we offer 48 associate’s degrees in arts, sciences and occupational fields, many of which are transferrable to universities. Courses are taught in the classroom and online via Distance Learning to allow our students the most flexibility possible in pursuing their education.
We also reach out to non-traditional populations. Through our dual-credit programs, high school-aged students can get a head start on college by earning college credit while still in high school. We also offer lifelong learning opportunities through the Emeritus Academy and the Workforce Training Center, where you can take topical courses on anything from “New Mexico Christmas Traditions” to learning how to prepare a gourmet meal from a New Mexico “Guest Chef.”
Whatever your educational interests might be, we’re here to serve you! And look for us out in Rio Rancho this fall!
