Stuck in The Middle With You

It was about 8:30am Sunday morning at the Frontier. My wife and I decided that a breakfast burrito before church would be a good idea so with coffee in hand we scanned the multitude of open tables, a rarity at the Frontier on a Sunday. Moving along towards our favorite spot, we spotted friends of ours and joined them. Their voices were hoarse and strained from the Obama rally the evening before, but they beamed with excitement. They just couldn’t stop talking about Obama and how great he was and… Continue

Hey man, what I'm trying to accomplish is just to make a statement that it's ok to take a long time and that it is possible to get across the country without the use of a car or plane or heck even a train. I know there are lots of people who bike cross-country all the time I found out about it here. And like you said you bike 150 miles a week already so it's not like I'm doing anything unique or special. But I want to talk to people about it and get the idea out there. We have this sense of urgency with every thing like "i have to be there by tonight" or just like there's something wrong with taking a month to get to a place that with modern technology you could get to in a couple of hours. I just don't get it. I read once that on average people in the 19th and early 20th centuries slept about 10 hours a night and spent more time with their families. I think we need to slow down. Anyways, I may not really have a good point, and this might not be the best way to make it but I felt like something that originally started as pure curiosity (could I do it?) has turned into something I want to share with people in the hopes of making them think. I'll let you know if it works :)

I get the feeling that "TriCross" should be a sport that combines triathlons with cyclocross. I'm picturing athletes flopping about in an attempt to "swim" through mud, leaping over the barricades like trout headed upstream.
