No more Cristal in the water fountains, maybe?

October 29, 2008 Message to UNM from President Schmidly: Current Financial Challenges As I mentioned in my message to you last Monday, the information we’re getting from Santa Fe is that state general fund numbers have declined significantly, so a possible round of belt-tightening could be in the offing. Though it is too soon to predict what will happen, the University is in the process of discussing strategies that could save money in the short term while not compromising our core missions or… Continue

Where to go when the work day is just too f***ing awful - drinker's edition

Soooo. Some of us seem to be having a tough day at work today. Assuming you've arranged appropriate homebound transportation and can slip away unnoticed, what's the best dark watering hole in which to drown your sorrows and (ideally) not also run into the b…

Local Actor Joe Peracchio (relocated to LA and now back to ABQ) is in EASY MONEY

Tricklock Company founding member and leading light Joe Peracchio relocated to Los Angeles a year or two back in order to get his TV and film career going and now, wonder of wonders, he's been shipped back to shoot the CW series EASY MONEY. EASY MONEY is shot in Albuquerque and is on the CW Sunday nights at 9pm. Here's the email I got from him a week or so ago about the show: I play Mike Klink, ne… Continue

UNM Stripper Study Back in the News: Maybe explains Palin performance, definitely wins Ig Nobel Prize

No seriously. That semi-infamous study by a UNM researcher about how strippers make more in tips when they're ovulating? It's all over the place again. Maybe because it's just won an Ig Nobel Award. The Ig Nobel is granted by a magazine called Annals of Improbable Research at a ceremony at Harvard, and it's worth clicking through to the AP story just to see who else won. But that's not the only r… Continue

So about these orgies I keep hearing about....

Defamer has recently run an interview with local man-about-town Dennis Hopper in which he says of the show CRASH (now filming in Albuquerque): "... the things you can do on cable television now you can't even get away with in movies. We had an orgy the other day. For me it's a joy." Oh my. Now, apparently, notorious horndog… Continue

Act Fast: Chamber Conducting Online Business Poll re Arena

So the Chamber has just sent out a link to an online poll about the proposed downtown arena. Want to get your 2 cents in there? Act fast -- "short" suggests both limited number of questions and limited respondents to me. A short on-line survey is being conducted on behalf of the… Continue

What to do? A sudden (late-night) surfeit of green chile!

So I got home tonight to discover that a friend has dropped a big burlap bag of roasted green chile at my back door. A BIG bag. From Hatch. Which is currently stinking up (in a fantastic and very welcome way, of course) my entire house. What am I supposed to do now??? I'm assuming that it can live in the fridge until morning. It's still kind of hot, even after that long drive!

strange (theatrical) doings at the q-Staff theatre

I haven't really written about them before because, to be perfectly honest, I've never seen them perform. But I have such an intense brain-and-otherwise crush on all three of the q-Staff theatre members that I have to mention that they have a show starting this weekend. Expect to se… Continue

must. pick. at. golden west. scab.

I know, I know. I begged us to change the subject. But the latest news on the whole Golden West/El Rey/Launchpad thing is just too good. The fantastic (I loved her at the Lobo, I love her even more now) Marisa Demarco has written a damning piece in this week's Alibi (it's not online till tomorrow morning, so pick up a real copy and turn to page 46) on Kathy Zimmer and the Golden West mess. In the story, Marisa gets a half-answer from Zimmer about our favorite flashpoint -- the insurance issue.… Continue

Can we - and I'm actually begging here - talk about something other than the Golden West?

I'm tired and a little bit cranky and it's like that moment in a new relationship (that's maybe really only going to end up being an extended hookup) when you realize that besides talking about how great the sex is all you seem to have in common are details from the past two weeks. And even then all of those details involve being in bed. Or on the kitchen table or something. Enough! I need some sort of non-Golden West substance or this can't continue! I'm more than just a great rack! I have a b… Continue

Hi Kitson. I'm so sorry about sending out the invites a while back. I didn't mean to be a total spamming jerk. I just thought that that's what the "invite" function in the Events postings were for. I didn't realize how annoying it could be.

I promise to keep all of my events in the Events section. Thank you for being kind enough to let me know there was an issue.

Hello Kitson Harvey - how are you?
I love the video on your page. I've always wanted to see what that singer looks like. I thought she'd be older - like a 70 year old diva smoking cigarettes and drinking gin and tonics.
